Two Critical Competencies
It comes as no surprise that in these times of rapidly changing work dynamics, the skills that drive success are also evolving. Two critical competencies that are increasingly mentioned by business thought leaders are Emotional Intelligence and Adaptability. What gets less coverage is the connection between these two fundamental attributes.
EQ
The Emotional Intelligence Quotient is a measure of one’s ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions, as well as the capacity to recognize and influence the feelings of others. One who has self-awareness and command over their own emotional responses has a powerful foundation for strong interpersonal relationships and effective communication. When we possess high EQ, we are able to be more empathetic, are less easily upset, and are better equipped to gracefully navigate the complexities of any social environment, whether that be in a business or personal context.
AQ
The Adaptability Quotient, on the other hand, is a means of measuring one’s capacity to adjust and thrive in changing circumstances. It examines factors like grit, resilience, flexibility, and the willingness to embrace new challenges without losing perspective. In a world where change sometimes feels like the only constant, one’s AQ determines how well we can pivot, innovate, and grow, while not losing sight of long-term goals.
